Since I'm stuck here for about 9 months with a slow internet pipe, I figure I should do something productive, offline, to help bide my time.
So, my thought is, to put together a massive in depth persistent mission that simulates the situation in Iraq during OIF3-5, perhaps giving the user the option to select which year in OIF the mission will play in. (That'd be a later feature in development.)
Overall, it would provide players with a coop mission that places them in a FOB, patrol base, or similar location of their choice and they then pick from jobs available and then receive missions based upon their choices.
Jobs would be things such as:
Infantry
Tanker
Pilot (both army and air force and each pilot role would be for a specific aircraft, not all of them!)
Combat Medic
Special Forces
Sniper/Scout
Truck Driver (What? It's a vital job!)
and probably a few more.
Missions would be dependent on the job the player selects. An example of a few would be:
Street Patrol
Medevac
Recon
Cargo transport/lift
Troop transport
Search and Destroy
Apprehend subject
The mission would make use of civilian AI to populate the world with pedestrians and vehicle traffic to make the world and environment seem believable to players. Killing an innocent civilian would punish the player in some way, utilizing a gruesome scoring system to rate each player's performance in the mission - if a player contributes in positive ways, then he will have a positive score, if he does things that do not help the wheels of progress, then he'll have a negative score. Negative scores will limit what types of missions a player can receive, reducing him to guard tower duty only at the worst situation.
That's about it for now. This was a brainstorm brought to you by Yuka!
Here is it... I'm working on the mission and have been for some time now. I'm learning the ArmA 2 scripting engine as I go so it is taking me a while. This is further complicated by some of the advanced and innovative gameplay concepts I hope to introduce into the game.
