I was checking out APB in the week-long public beta event thing and decided I needed to bring some VR to the game. Here are some pictures (taken from my phone because apparently I was too dumb to figure out how to take a screenshot from the game)
And yes, I am playing on my projector.
I had a blast with it for this short open beta event thing, so much that I decided to pre-order. It is kind of interesting in the fact that you can't hurt other players (not even opposing faction) until some things happen, either
a) you are doing a mission and another someone from the other faction (or a group of people if you are in a group) gets paired with your mission - in that case, their objective is to stop you from finishing yours
b) you gain enough fame that (if you are an enforcer) the gangs want to take you out because you are so good, so you go pvp to everyone of the opposite faction (or if you are a thug and are notorious enough the same happens and the enforcers can hunt you down)
At first I was a little disappointed in the way that worked, but it grew on me. The way the city instances are set up and actually having missions to do, it would be way crazy having everyone against everyone.
Speaking of the city instances, they are limited to 100 players (50 enforcers, 50 criminals) but they aren't that huge so it works.
The game is split into two parts, the action districts where all the ... action goes on, and the social district, where you can design things (logos, clothing, cars, music) and also sell them on the market for in-game money or Realtime Worlds Points which you can then use to ... pay for playing the game. Being in the social districts is unlimited playtime, and they will sell time in the action districts in blocks of 20 hours for $7 or unlimited for 30 days for $10, so I guess if you don't play that much you can save some cash and buy blocks of 20 hours, as I don't think they expire. When you buy the game it comes with 50 hours free. Kind of weird pricing scheme but I think it will work out great - especially for times when you need to take a break and decide you want to play some but not have to start up a sub again.
I loved APB. I had no idea anyone else played. I played under Avill and I will be joining the new APB Reloaded once it releases.
Chances are that I will be there again, too.
Are people actually playing APB as VR? I have been waiting for something worth while to come around to hitch onto but the game industry has seemed kinda lame recently lol.
THAT is awesome! Why didn't I think of custom printed shirts and a vehicle decal to shamelessly plug for the VR?
How's APB?
